Conductivity and electrical properties of corn starch–chitosan blend biopolymer electrolyte incorporated with ammonium iodide

چکیده
This work focuses on the characteristics of polymer blend electrolytes based on corn starch and chitosan doped with ammonium iodide (NH4I). The electrolytes were prepared using the solution cast method. A polymer blend comprising 80wt% starch and 20wt% chitosan was found to be the most amorphous blend and suitable to serve as the polymer host. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis proved the interaction between starch, chitosan and NH4I. The highest room temperature conductivity of (3.04± 0.32)× 10−4 S cm−1 was obtained when the polymer host was doped with 40wt% NH4I. This result was further proven by field emission scanning electron microscopy study. All electrolytes were found to obey the Arrhenius rule. Dielectric studies confirm that the electrolytes obeyed non-Debye behavior. The temperature dependence of the power law exponent s for the highest conducting sample follows the quantum mechanical tunneling model.

In this work, cornstarch-based electrolytes are doped with ammonium bromide (NH4Br) and plasticized with glycerol. Starch-NH4Br complexation is evidenced from the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy results. A room temperature conductivity of (5.57±1.88)×10 S cm obtained by 70wt% starch–30 wt% NH4Br electrolyte is enhanced to (1.80±0.26)×10 S cm with the addition of 30 wt% glycerol. ...

High impact polystyrene (HIPS)/corn starch blends were prepared in presence of glycerol as a plasticizer via melt extrusion process by a twin-screw extruder. The novelty of this work is first, because of the use of pre-gelatinized corn starch as modified one and second, the procedure of making blends by extruder which makes it ease of access and also industrially possible. The blends were then ...
